Project Description
The project was to model and texture a level. In respect to modeling the scene, the polygon count for all objects need to be low compared to film polygonal models. We were only required to create the diffuse, specular and bump maps. The level was than to be imported into a game engine of our choice. We where than required to use a game animation system to add a few object animation.

Personal Skills
2D has always been my comfort zone and preference when it comes to art. Doing such an involved 3D project is exiting, but I expect a challenge. I hope that during this project I will gain a better understanding and skill regarding making 3D environments. It can only help me in my 2D endeavors after all!
The books I am referencing for this piece is the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. The room I plan to model is that of the gatehouse, a place where the recorders of Redwall Abbey live and where the records and texts gathered or written by all previous recorders are kept. I've referenced the books to get a general understand of what the gatehouse contains, but luckily for my creativity, an exact layout is never given. In addition to referencing the books in my own collection, I have looked at fan-run website for further insight. The gatehouse is a place of knowledge, but I see it as rather homey and warm. Books and scrolls are in organized chaos while dust and cobwebs linger in the tall corners of the room.

Thumbnails
Many of these thumbnails are exploring the possible layouts and looks of the gatehouse. Is it roomy and open, or cluttered and cramped? Where does the recorder sleep? Where would the fireplace and comfy armchair best be located. I also explored the exterior some, since I planned to make the main "library" room be an open two stories. Once I had a good idea of that the gatehouse layout was, I began to explore the look of the books and furniture inside. Since Redwall Abbey is inhabited by animals, I had to keep scale and function in mind when designing. Overall I now feel I have a good idea of the look and feel of the gatehouse.

Online Reference Images
Since the series takes place is a medieval-like fantasy world, I wanted to gather reference of what books and interior architecture looked like for that time. I was particularly fond of stone/wooden combinations. I also wanted to gather reference for all the books and odds and ends that might turn up in the gatehouse. I imagine all the books and miscellaneous items having a "worn down with love" sort of feel to it all.

Color Palette
The main feel I want the gatehouse to embody is a warm, comfy atmosphere where someone could just study and read all day. Warm autumnal colors aid to this, with rich browns for the wood and leather books, with splashes of dulled gold and accents of rusty reds and forest greens. Not only to these colors emphasize the warm, welcoming atmosphere, but also pay homage to nature, an important detail since the abbey takes place in a forest and is inhabited by animals.

Chair - Texture and Animation
The animation of a chair leaning and scooting back when someone flops down in it, then scooting the chair back up. Simple Animations
These animations aim to bring life to the environment. Some will play randomly, while others are triggered.
